Welcome to Decorative Knots

There are whole books devoted to tying Decorative knots. Ashley, himself, devotes about half his enormous book (ABOK) to knots which are more fun than they are useful. Select the knots from: the index on the left; the pictures above; or, the Decorative Uses page.

Click on the picture on the right to see an enlargement.

Selection

The knots here were selected as merely an introduction to the fun to be had with a piece of rope and cord.

Emphasis

For decorative knots the emphasis is on fun and decoration - nothing to do with strength - even when making a Rope Belt using the Sliding Splice.

Disclaimer: Any activity that involves ropes is potentially hazardous. Lives may be at risk - possibly your own. Considerable attention and effort have been made to ensure that these descriptions are accurate. However, many critical factors cannot be controlled, including: the choice of materials; the age, size, and condition of ropes; and the accuracy with which these descriptions have been followed. No responsibility is accepted for incidents arising from the use of this material.
